If you are a self-described “beer geek” like I am you already know of Spyglass Brewing in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Established in 2018 and having opened their original location in 2019, the brewery has become a staple of the New England IPA scene. Founders John Wagner, Joe Kidder, A.V. Subramaniam, and Jonas Johansson were not finding these beloved brews, so prevalent in Massachusetts and Maine , in their home state of New Hampshire. So…they made their own.
For those who had visited the old place at Townsend West, you will understand the need for Spyglass Brewing Company to move to their new facility. Making the trip to their 45 seat “hole in the wall” was always a good time and filled with great people…however…their popularity created quite a lot of tight space and the beers sold out rather quickly. To meet with demand, to offer outside seating and to add a restaurant style experience the operation moved to their larger 300 seater at 306 Innovative Way.
Once you approach the building you are pretty overwhelmed with just how big the new location is. With plenty of area in their wraparound lot, the days of looking for a parking space are over.
Walking inside you see the vast amount of tables as well as the stairway to the upper level with even more seating.
A long bar extends across the majority of the seating area for multiple lines of people to walk up and place their orders.
Tucked to the back left of the taproom you will find the restrooms, a small merchandise section and a cans to-go location just across from the kitchen.
Obviously fans of astronomy, Spyglass Brewing Company derives it’s namesake from a celestial viewing device and utilizes this continuous theme in many of their beer names (ex. Citra Singularity, Stratasphere, Binary Stars, Interstellar, etc.)
While known for their incredible India Pale Ales, Spyglass Brewing dabbles in other styles as well. All with fantastic results. From lagers to stouts to sours and more, the brewery has produced over 200 beers for sale.
Usually with 12 tap options to choose from, along with a small variety of can pours, Spyglass Brewing Company will offer the beer connoisseur a little bit of everything. On my recent visit I selected Cold Fusion IPA, a collaboration with Modestman Brewing. Up next was Uvolnit a Czech Pale Lager. My brew travel companion got herself the Bitstream Raspberry Lime seltzer. Although seltzer is not my thing she really enjoyed the fruity, full flavored beverage.
A welcoming addition to the new location is the restaurant menu. I always recommend the PB&J Chicken Wings to start and my usual go-to meal is the Fried Chicken Sandwich. No waiters to your table, you order food at the counter, get handed a buzzer and once it lights up you go to the service window in the back of the facility.
With beer variety changing constantly, one thing I like to do at Spyglass Brewing Company is to try as many different beers on tap (within reason) as possible and to take home what I didn’t get to. Most if not all of their tap offerings are also available in cans to-go. Spyglass offers single can sales so you will be able to create your own mix packs and continue to enjoy their offerings at your home.
As I mentioned, if you are a lover of New England craft beer, especially of IPA, you know this place already. For those of you who may not have heard of or have gotten to try offerings from Spyglass Brewing, you MUST make the visit. It is definitely one of those hyped-up breweries that completely lives up to and, in fact, goes beyond it’s reputation.
