He certainly won’t remember this but I once met Harper Lane Brewery owner, Mike Pasalacqua, in 2019 at a pop-up event he had in downtown Middleboro, MA.
Mike had already been commercial brewing for about a year prior and I had tried a few Harper Lane beers, on draft, at a local pizza place. That day, I thought it was very cool he had a temporary spot to showcase his talents to his hometown. I remember asking him “How long until you open up a taproom?” He replied: “Probably in 2 years”.
Pandemic events most likely threw a monkey wrench into those plans but happy to see that…5 years later…Mike has finally opened up!
And…of course…I went opening night!
Located at 16 Wareham Street in Middleboro, MA, in an old auto dealership, Harper Lane brings a delightful addition to the Middleboro downtown area. A good sized parking lot, with additional street parking available, Harper Lane Brewing gives off an immediate “cozy” feel as you walk in. In fact, I was greeted by an older local couple as I walked in who told me “You’re going to love this place!”
The bar is to the far right where you can get in line to order your beverage of choice. Plenty of high top tables and even some barrels are available to place your pint glass or flight samples down and take in the fresh construction.
The beer menu offers plenty of different styles to suit your tastes. A New England IPA was there as well as a Stout, Porter, Blonde, Wheat Beer, Farmhouse and Seltzers.
Looking towards the back of the taproom you will notice the brewing equipment setup. I always enjoy seeing these in plain sight. It’s pretty cool to see the tanks that produce the delicious brews are so close to the location for where you can get them poured. Just adds a touch of freshness.
As I wish more brewery taprooms would implement, a full menu of food ordering is available onsite! In partnership with HomeRootts Bistro (not a typo) you can walk to the adjacent space of the taproom (to the left) and place a food order to bring back in and enjoy with your beer. However, as a heads up, you cannot bring beer INTO the HomeRootts seating section.
From HomeRoots Bistro I enjoyed the Maple Bourbon Pork Belly Burnt Ends and Buffalo Chicken Flatbread.
The South Shore of Massachusetts is starting to explode with new breweries and taprooms. Up and down the coast and into the Cape there seems to be locations opening or will open soon.
Harper Lane Brewery is a fantastic addition to that craft beer scene and it is so great that Mike finally got his location open to the brewery map!
