Modest Roots Brewing originally opened in Tyngsborough, MA in an industrial park back in the spring of 2022.
The family-run nano brewery was a bit tricky to find as it wasn’t exactly on a busy road. Plus it was tucked away in the back of a huge warehouse dwelling and parking was a challenge.
It was still a very popular spot with locals, even with the limited hours, and the brewery offered up a good amount of beers to choose from. Unfortunately, they just didn’t have a lot of seating to choose from.
On my one and only stop at the former locale, I remember ordering a pint and having to search for an open spot. I had to head towards the back, to the brewery equipment area, to find space to enjoy my beer. In fact, my “table” was the stairs to the mash tun.
It didn’t take long to recognize the need for more space and, in what seems even shorter time, Modest Roots Brewing opened up their new location on Middlesex Road in late fall of 2023.
A bit easier to find and with MUCH more parking available, the new location offers you an increased “roomy” experience.
They are still tucked in the back of a building, but now you can walk down a small hill to enter the brewery’s front door.
Once inside you notice the expanded seating space as well as a beautifully painted mural along the wall.
Stepping up to the counter to view the draft menu, “Mom and Dad” are right there at the taps to give you smile, offer a welcoming greeting and to give you order suggestions based on your tastes.
Having had the wonderful Suzy Is A Headbanger stout in the past, I went with the variant coffee version. Full of roasted java flavor, this is certainly a must try for any fans of stout or coffee stout.
Although not a big fan of Cream Ale, I did want to try their Take A Chance offering. I did just that and found it very enjoyable.
A brief walk around the Modest Roots Brewing taproom will show you some of the most amazing artwork I’ve ever seen at a brewery.
Although I try not to mention my restroom experiences at breweries, I would be remiss if I didn’t call out the vinyl collection collages located in both neutral gender bathrooms.
A unique display of art and cool visual for old record aficionados. For sure, something interesting to view while you are…well…taking care of business.
One thing I must point out regarding a visit to Modest Roots Brewing is that it is very necessary to be a canine lover.
A super pet-friendly establishment, the taproom area was filled with some of the most adorable dogs I’ve seen.
While most of these pooches kept to themselves there were a few that were curious about other guests (or their beers) so do expect an occasional visit.
A limited merchandise section is on display as you walk in. There is also a few cans-to-go options within an adjacent fridge.
No food made on premise but there are frequently scheduled food trucks.
With Epigram Brew Co. only a few miles away down the road, the new Modest Roots Brewing location offers a wonderful afternoon beer trip to Tyngsborough.
If you are into a simple taproom with artistic visuals, good beer and plenty of four legged friends to hang out with you will definitely want to make a visit.
